Midori Makino

WSS Lead Specialist for LAC, The World Bank

Midori Makino is Lead Water Supply and Sanitation Specialist for the Water Global Practice, covering the Latin America and the Caribbean Region at the World Bank. She has over 20 years of experience, working across water and infrastructure sectors in multiple regions including Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, where she has managed investment operations and analytical work in a number of countries.

Prior to taking on the current assignment in 2019, Midori held the Manager position in the Independent Evaluation Group’s Sustainable Development unit, producing project, sector, and thematic evaluations in water, agriculture, environment, urban and social development, disaster risk management, energy, and transport sectors.

Over the years, she has led and coordinated multiple global and regional initiatives in the World Bank’s water sector, including the knowledge management of the Financial Innovation Team, Rural and Small Town Water and Sanitation thematic group, and Regional Analytics working group. Her areas of expertise include infrastructure finance, policy and institutional reforms, and evaluation of development effectiveness. She holds an MBA from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Master of Science in Economics from Stockholm School of Economics.
