With the US EPA now developing a federal drinking water standard for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), GWI is convening a multi-stakeholder virtual meeting to understand the challenges that the man-made chemicals place on the water utility sector – and the strategies to overcome them. GWI has estimated that US utilities will spend over $4 billion by 2026 on PFAS treatment for drinking water purposes alone, and the contaminants are likewise imposing challenges on wastewater and biosolids management. The meeting format will feature three separate discussions focusing on different perspectives: federal and state regulations, water and wastewater utility decision-making, and treatment solutions. The aim of the session is to help inform future policy considerations and utility planning. The conference will use the Remo online conference platform that will provide valuable networking opportunities for attendees.
